Each year, Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area (SSNHA) celebrates the best in heritage development by presenting the “People’s Choice Site of the Year”. Voted on by the public, this special honor is presented to only one deserving SSNHA Heritage Area Site.
Do you know a site that deserves to be recognized as the Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area 2025 People’s Choice “Site of the Year.” Complete a nomination form below and tell us why in 250 words or less by 5:00 p.m. on Oct. 23. The information you provide in the nomination will be used for promotion and seen by the public. All 119 designated Heritage Area Sites are eligible to enter, though we ask that sites who have won the previous year take a one-year moratorium before entering again. Since you are the best advocate for your site, self-nominations are strongly encouraged.
Silos & Smokestacks staff will then select the top five nominations of those entered to be voted on by the public. Nominees are selected based on outstanding commitment to preserving and sharing America’s agricultural story. Through engaging programs, authentic interpretation, and meaningful visitor experiences, the site should exemplify the mission of Silos & Smokestacks to connect people to the land, food, and communities that define our heritage. The site should show dedication to education, collaboration, storytelling and strengthening local pride. The five selected nominees will be notified by close of business Oct. 24.
Voting for the 2025 Site of the Year will be open to the public at www.silosandsmokestacks.org from Oct. 27-31. The top three finalists as of Nov. 4 will be invited as our guests to the Heritage Area Annual Training on Nov. 6, where the winner will be announced and receive the traveling award for People’s Choice “Site of the Year.”
The nomination period is now closed. Click HERE to vote for the 2025 People’s Choice Site of the Year.
